Canvas is the campus-wide learning management system (LMS) for publishing course-related materials online at U-M. Information on how to begin using Canvas is available at the Canvas Quick-Start Tutorial for U-M Instructors. Links to many other Canvas resources are available in the left sidebar menu. College of Engineering faculty can contact CAEN for assistance with using Canvas with their courses.
Canvas introductory workshops are being scheduled throughout the term, and will be available to all faculty and staff (registration will be required). Information on all upcoming Canvas workshops around the U-M campus, including links to register, are available on the Teaching and Technology Collaborative website.
On May 5, 2016, CAEN sponsored a Canvas presentation and discussion session for College of Engineering faculty which included presentations by two CoE instructors who are already using Canvas in their courses. The recordings are linked below:
A second session was held on June 7, 2016, and included the following presentations:
The third session was held on July 28, 2016:
CAEN staff can be available for 30-minute one-on-one meetings with College of Engineering instructors to answer any questions or concerns they may have about using Canvas course sites. To request a appointment, instructors should simply send email to firstname.lastname@example.org, including a list of days and times that work best (Monday - Friday, between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.). A CAEN staff member will respond to coordinate a meeting time and location.
Faculty are also encouraged to take advantage of the Canvas consultation appointments offered by Scholarspace:
Scholarspace is located in the Hatcher Graduate Library, and offers U-M faculty the opportunity to discuss technology options to integrate into curriculum, and get hands-on instruction. They offer free one-on-one consultations, and are a great campus resource to get help using Canvas. College of Engineering faculty who would like assistance with using Canvas are encouraged to make an appointment with Scholarspace online.
